not too shabby of a GIVEAWAY! (closed)

read the next line in your best oprah voice:

"WE'VE GOT SHABBY AP-PLLLLLLLLLLE!"

yes, the thing that is one hundred times better than a peppermint patty is that shabby apple wants to give away a dress! right here. on my blog. specifically, the cider dress:

as pearl would say, "it's beautimous." i love it! and who doesn't love shabby apple? they have a new south pacific line that has some real beauties. and then there are other dresses that i've coveted for some time.

okay, so there 17 different ways you can enter.

1. bring me a peppermint patty.
2. write a post on your blog about how i'm the most amazing person you've ever known.
3...

just kidding. i hate when there are 17 different ways to enter. just "like" shabby apple on facebook and leave me a comment with your current favorite baby name. not because i'm with child, people, but because i like baby names. the winner will be chosen at random but the best baby name will have my utmost respect. (and this isn't design mom. your odds are pretty good.) i'll pick a winner friday morningish.

ok go.

does being the first comment mean good luck...or that i have no life? hmmm? regardless, i'm in.
and my favorite baby name (today) is Sam. for a boy or a girl.

teamBoo said...

do i get extra entries if my arm flab shook when i read it?

i just met this little girl the other day named Zazel (sounds like "Hazel") and first was like "what the Utah?" and then 30 seconds later i thought it was kinda sweet.

Baby names...ok I am going out on a limb here because I have kept my favorites top secret. BUT...Scout and Gray are two of my faves.

Ariel said...

Yowza...love the dress! Ok, baby names are a tricky business....so personal! We are done having children...and I have a Paige and a River, but #3 would have been Cole. Either girl or boy for me. I love it!

Leslie said...

are you kidding me??? it's cause you're amazing, that's why you have this most awesome give-away! (because truly, you are amazing. i just love you!) i'm pretty sure i've told you my fave baby name - which is still a secret, by the way! i just want to hold on to it. not that we're having more kids, but it's mine. MINE! :)

Leslie said...

also, little mookie "likes" shabby apple on the ol fb now. :) they have SO MANY cute dresses! i love it! if only i had the patience to make one myself... but i want to make a trench first. with pleated ruffles. mmm! sounds tasty!

If you know this, we're insta bffe (best friends foreverX eternity.)

i love that dress featured!!

kate said...

oh, and the real name i love is top secret not because i'm cool, but because i'm praying that it doesn't get insat-popular overnight like every other name that has been on my baby list since fifth grade.

hanner said...

my great great grandmother was named mima (short for jemima) and i really really love that name, even though i doubt jemima will ever make it to my husband's short list.

i do love mima though.

Yay for Shabby Apple giveaways! I am with child so baby names are on my mind a lot. Judging by the other comments it is not umcommon to not divulge your fav. I agree with communikate. I don't want my favorite name to be number one next year...please oh please. So my second favorite is Petra. For a girl.

Gwen said...

Wow Abby....You are entering the big leagues of blogging! Can I say I knew you when?

Call me old fashioned, but I like the traditional, family names. You know, like Lucile. I like that I have a story and some pictures to show her someday.

I have a sister named Claire though, and my husband's first name is John. So if the next babe is a girl or a boy it is Claire or John. My husband has a dear uncle named Malcolm David, so if we have another boy after that I want to name him Malcolm.

I LOVE talking about baby names!

Unknown said...

Such a cute dress!!! I own ZERO dresses that fit me. So sad.

Anyway, I really love Sienna for a girl and Dalton for a boy. LOVE those names

Jenn said...

I wanted to name my daughter Piper, but then my husband said he'd have a hard time not quoting So I Married An Axe Murderer every time she falls over ("We've got a piper down!"). So we went with Elsbeth. I like old fashioned or European names that are unique.
But I still like Piper.

kate said...

I'm not very hopeful about online giveaways at the moment BUT that dress is bomb.

Favorite name: Mabel. (great grandma's name. always and forever a favorite)

Ash said...

I don't have a facebook, does that matter?

Forest for a little baby boy. I know that sounds hippie-ish, but I just think Forest Fowler sounds so sweet. And it's the only name my husband and I could agree on.
I like the name Lorelei, but Miles said I couldn't name our kids after characters from Gilmore Girls. Sigh.

(I really love this blog, by the way.)

Krista said...

i have a friend that just named her lil babe ruby louise. think it's up there with cutest names.

Toni said...

I just named my beautiful baby girl (who was born on Christmas Day!) Sailyr Joy.

i already love shabby apple but now it's official on facebook, i guess.

my sister-in-law sent me over and since you like bon iver i want to creep on your blog. cute!

i've always been obsessed with baby names. right now some names i like but my husband doesn't (so i don't mind sharing) are graham & virginia.

lindie said...

The dress is super fun. I love the orange. It reminds me of Wendy's wall which I LOVE!!

I think grandma smith had a cool name. She went by Belle her whole life, but Helena is fun which was her real name. I'm sure you already knew that. My niece has a cute name and I've never heard it and its Saylor. What about Flora?? I'm just thinking of family names. You could have a cute Flora. I just know it.

Before moving to Utah, I loved Rhegan's name because I never heard it.... now every tom dick and harry have that name. sad.

Tyanna said...

I am having a baby boy in April and we are naming him Dutch, so that would have to be my favorite these days. Although, I also really like the name Nolan...and it has nothing to do with baseball.

Tiffany said...

Ooooh how fun! Ok, so a name I've been liking lately is Quinn. I met one of Ammons high school friends a couple weeks ago and that's his name. I dunno, there's something about it I just like!

Jourdan said...

I thought i made up the name Clover, but then I googled it and found it everywhere...I still love it, but alas the husb does not agree.

I have a few others up my sleeve (not telling husband until child is in his arms...how can he say no?!), but how about Fern? Oh man, I love that name.

Hey, can I have that dress now please?

MyKelle J said...

This is such a great giveaway. I'm so happy for your blog!

You know my favorite names, but I'll share them anyway.

Boy: Elliot
Girl: Juliet and Sienna

Now don't go and steal these. :)

P.S. I had a dream that you were really mean to me and I cried and thought to myself that I was going to write you an email and tell you that you were being mean. Haha.

Val and Dan said...

Wow, Abs! You are totally the big time now! I really REALLY hope you pick me. I had a falling out with Shabby when I put together the best entry EVER for their vignette contest and wasn't even a finalist. But I'm willing to open my heart once more for the sake of this totally gorgeous dress!

As for names, for a boy I would love Max and for a girl, Charlotte. Dan is not a huge fan of either one, but I figure I have some time for them to grow on him.

Jalene said...

I covet Shabby Apple daily.

The name I love but will never be able to use due to completely ridiculous objections by my husband (what??), Sofia/Sophia. Or Mercedes (Count of Monte Cristo is probably my favorite book)

Nancy said...

such a pretty dress, I think the color would look really beautiful on either Emily or Sarah, I don't know about my coloring or shape, but that doesn't stop me from trying to win it!

My favorite baby name of the moment:
Brody. It's not new at all, I can just picture a naughty little blonde boy in my family with that name. Maybe someday :)

Baby names...something I think about every day. Freaks my husband out. Like I'm going to surprise him with a #3.

Holy cow you have a lot of friends :)
I am not on facebook so alas I cannot enter- but I LOVE the site. Beautiful dresses with sleeves and knee length and under $100. I may have to start wearing dresses everyday! hahaha And just because you like names here's my most favoritest- Beatrice Nadine. I also like Lucy very much and I kind of like Nala, Opal and Olive, but those never worked for us personally. Boy names- Abe. Oliver & Doug are nice too. I like names- I think I could keep going for awhile... Oh why could my boys not like any of those for our dog? I do not like the name Sadie, but since I picked everything else I let them pick the name -except I put my foot down on Master Yoda, she is a girl after all.

Elena said...

i love the dress! i want it. what a lovely giveaway, Abby!

I love baby names as well, I think of them all the time, my favorite ones are:
boy- Oliver, Henry, William.
girl- Scarlett, Elisabeth, Clare and recently I added Adele to the list. and can I say, I envy your name choice for your little Pearl. I love that name, but my hubby would never agree to that and my parents would never be able to say it. But i still think it's absolutely beautiful.
i really enjoy your blog.

I could really use a fabulous non-maternity dress to look forward to wearing :)

team cowan said...

Not only do I love Shabby Apple, but that's probably my favorite dress. Pick me. I promise I deserve it.

Baby names - I have certain criteria. I got bored one day and decided to figure out which letters of the alphabet we haven't used in any of our names, and it turns out the only ones missing are B,D,P and V. So possibilities for a girl: Ivy, Prudence, Della, Birdy... For a boy I hope that I would have the guts to go with what I love: Able Danger.

Heather said...

I have always like older names, I adore
Eleanore

for a boy I like Elliot & Allen

um, yes, shabby apple has LOVELY dresses, who doesn't covet them?!

Favorite girl name is Tess.

My favorite girl name is Abby. This sure is a cool post. AG

Theo shoutout! I love meeting other Theos. Haven't met another Ida yet under the age of 60 but I hope I do.

We kind of have a Scandi theme going in our family and I gravitate to those, so I will suggest Linus or Astrid. They sound clunky at first but they've grown on me.

I also inexplicably adore the name Rachel (my daughter's middle name). And Helen because it's my grandma's name.

And I just love your kids' names, in part because they remind me of mine...even though technically, mine remind me of yours since mine are younger.

Can we be friends and talk about baby names constantly?

Also cute dress but it's OK if I don't win because dresses never fit me and I suspect orange is not my color. (someone once very kindly informed me of that possibility...while I was wearing orange. ouch.)

Marnie said...

One of my favorite names, though it's kind of out there and doesn't really fit as a baby name, is Hamish. It comes from the movie Braveheart. He was William Wallace's redhead friend. Love it.
