you're every now and then on my mind

5 years ago i was leaving the hospital right about now, a very overwhelmed 21-year-old. how lucky i have been to navigate the bumps and joys and overall weirdness of life with this fine fellow. he was there when i graduated from college. he was there when i visited new york city and san francisco for the first time. he was there every day of our st. kitts experience, struggling as much as i was, but appreciating how cool the world is too. he was there, nestled in the crook of my arm, every night for the first 6 months of his life. EVERY NIGHT. that was hard. (WHAT WAS I THINKING.)

i wish i had milo's baby pictures handy to show the world what a lamb he was. he cried and cried and cried his first minutes in the world. the nurses had never seen anything like it. (his daddy cried and cried and cried too.) but he was perfectly healthy, which i like to credit to 60 pounds of pregnancy love. the birth experience was very un-hip. i got induced. i got an epidural. but bringing him into the world was completely spiritual.

this boy changed my life and i love him to the moon. happy five milo!

*photobooth pictures from photoboother.com. it's free and it's awesome and it's saved my hide since there's not a real photobooth for miles now.

So, I know you're going to think me a total nutcase in about 3 seconds, but lately, whenever I read blogs that involve little boys near my daughters ages, I start to imagine them meeting up someday and getting married, or whatever. (especially if the kids are adorable, which Milo certainly is). Next thing you know I'll be sending out e-mails discussing how many cows we might expect to receive, blah blah blah. Why am I so weird?

Anyway, I hope his birthday was delightful, and thanks for sharing the photobooth link. :)

Nothing unhip about getting induced and then the inevitable epidural. That is how my first went. And no regrets. :) Happy birthday to your little boy!
