we voting for harris...again!!

yesterday, my cute new friend becky took janae and i and our kids on a driving tour of the island. little did she know that she was saving our lives. it felt spectacular to get out of the house and actually get a feel for where we live. so go ahead and take the tour with me and my pictures out the window. just remember to stay on the left!

the general election will be held next week. will the incumbent Labour hold on to their 14 years of power with their awesome billboards? or are people thinking, "hey! it's really expensive to live here and i can't even find a decent box of red vines! and why am i eating apples from washington? i'm voting for PAM!" depends on who you ask. but until then, we get to hear yelling and loud music from downtown basseterre every night.

this is the southeast peninsula. atlantic on the left, caribbean on the right.

this is st. eustatius where our friends the packards live! only 6 miles away! so close and yet so far. how do we get there? we don't know.

mt. laimuiga. this is the volcano. i want to hike it. i love it. i just finished reading tess of the d'urbervilles and i'm feeling all pastoral and moody. or is that always? anyway, this lush, foggy mountain is very beautiful to me.

i have a hundred more photos but i'll stop there. if you come to visit and bring me a tub of red vines, i might just take you on your own personal tour. think about it.

You captured the ride perfectly. Some of the pictures, I thought, "Was I even in the same car?" So cool. I was having a party in the backseat with all the kids, if you couldn't tell.

I love that you got so many of the awesome billboards. I still can't believe those signs are real, even though I see them everyday.

Did you hear school was cancelled for election day next week?

What a fabulous tour! It gave me a great feel for the island. Thank you very much!

well let's see, you can visit your friends for a day when you ride a ferry that goes over there on the last sunday of every month and home that night. then my children might be wondering what happened to their new primary teachers.

so do you REALLY want to hike that volcano. We had a group of 12 and hired a guide, which was almost a necessity. It was rough, that is an understatement. Ask around to get an idea of what you would be getting yourself into before you commit.... but it was something that we had to do once while here or it just wouldn't be right....

oh and nice pics of things we see everyday and don't take notice of.....

love it abby! I watched tess of the d'urbervilles on PBS. LOVED IT. So much. have you seen it?

So, is there an explanation for the sign that reads: 'disasters...swift, sudden, deadly.'? While i concur, i don't understand the need for a sign unless there is a danger there that i can't see. if that is the case i'd love to know what dangerous thing you survived on Tuesday...

Glad you are surviving (not thriving w/out redvines:() on your beautiful island home! much love!

Abby, awesome, awesome pictures! I feel like I'm almost there in the car with you. I'm voting for PAM as she makes an awesome mother, that much I know.

tremendous pics - what kind of camera do u use?

also, this morning i heard this song in my head:
"livin' in a time machine, trapped in here fore-ever, we won't get out of here, till the ye-e-ear 3,000 ... we're too confused"

So nice to live on a lush, green Island.

And we ARE thinking about taking you up on your offer. And I LOVE Tess and all Thomas Hardy novels.

Thanks for the tour! The colorful homes remind me of the Bahamas.

And I will (hopefully) bring you red vines, and maybe twizzlers too.

the other night i dreamt about red vines. i walked into the store and the buckets were on sale for $5. i stocked up. that is, in my dream. i can't find them here either! in new york! the horror!

love the pictures.

It is absolutely stunning there! What a gorgeous place to live. I'm so glad you are taking a lot of photos. Each one could literally be a postcard.

The elections were always really funny in Cayman also. Half the people on the island can't vote because so many aren't Caymanian, but they would get sooo into it. We would go to the rallies just for free fried fish. :)

It looks just like St. Martins, where Joe & I visited-- beautiful!

Loved the tour! It looks like Hawaii rolled into the island on "Lost" rolled into...hmmm...I don't know -- Costa Rica maybe?? Do monkeys climb in your windows? I am totally blog-stalking you and your funny friend Janae. Now a virtual tour of your house?? Inquiring minds and all that.

So beautiful there! Those political signs are a crack-up. I had to tweet this post to my husband. If I could, I'd upload some red vines for you to download.

abby... where you live makes me want to pick up an easel and canvas and paint a picture. i wish i had pearl's curls. thank you for the very nice things you say about my goldie. she thanks you as well.

i am not joking. email me your address, and i will send you some red vines. i know we don't even know each other, but sometimes you just want to do something nice for a stranger/not stranger (we do read each others' blogs).

jenna.vela@gmail.com

also. i love that you're embracing YOUR curls. take advantage of NOT having to do your hair. i'm so sick of mine.

I was thinking the same thing as Jenna. A "RED VINE drive for Abby's sanity" perhaps? Post your address, we'll all send you some!
