she's five!

Pearl had her birthday in July and I mustered up my courage and threw a small party. I really admire all the party inspiration out there but the truth is I come from a long legacy of no-nonsense farm stock and party planning is not my forte and in the back of my head the whole time as I'm gluing trophies to jars and cutting crepe paper for hours I'm thinking, "This is dumb, this is dumb." So the party was low-key and mostly about going to Seven Peaks. But it was a nice day and Pearl thrives on attention so not throwing her a party would be akin to child abuse for that girl. We only invited a couple of her best friends but then with their siblings coming and the neighbor kids looking over the fence longingly until we invited them over too, it looks like quite the shindig!

Not our best showing at the photo booth!

This is how Pearl fell asleep last night:

Horrific.

Oh, Abby. You're in trouble with that one. She's gorgeous. Seriously, I know it's way cliche to say this, but the boys really are going to be a knockin' down the door for her.

I love the photobooth tradition. I can't wait to copy it with my own (please say the booths stick around.)

Happy birthday,Pearl! My birthday is in July, too. It's a good month to have a birthday because you don't have to go to school (unless you have year-round school, but I didn't when I was a kid)! It looks like it was a fun day! I like low key parties, too, Abby. I'm just not into decorating and making lots of food. Cake and ice cream rocks!

It looks awesome! She is a stunner. So pretty. I've been wanting to try those streamers-are they a pain?
p.s. Lottie has that same polka dot dress and I love it.

Very fun. I wish I could have been there. For a farm-in-your-blood girl, you have a heap o' class.

I can't figure out which are the neighbor kids. Boy and girl with arm around each other? I thought they were both five, so I'm confused.

I LOVE love love that last picture! Hilarious! You should print that as a bookmark so you can look at it a lot. :-)
The crepe paper and balloons look tres chic & your photography makes them look boutique not low key. Amazing. Sigh. I also like that pearl is wearing a bonnet & I like that you invited your onlooking neighbors. I try to remember to be that way- our house always open, but sometimes I forget. A couple nights ago I sent a neighbor away from the door because we were eating dinner, but after we closed the door Isaac said shouldn't we have asked if he wanted to come in and have a slice of pizza? Um yeah we totally should have. Next time.

All they want is the ugly Walmart stuff anyway. I come from a legacy of celebrating birthdays monthS late. That seems to take the pressure off the fan fare...by then they'll take a birthday of any kind. Sad.

or is it smart?

Abby, it's time for my periodic stalking. Your daughter is gorgeous and the spitting image of you. Love the last photo! And you are SO my kind of woman--I love to have kids over and party, but have never gotten into the cutesy/crafty part. I agree: "this is dumb." None of my kids care and when I have done cute stuff, they look at me like I'm dorky for trying so hard . For my son's 7th bday, I bought a ton of trashy Cars2 deco at WalMart and plastered our living room with it-I spent under 20 bucks. He was in heaven. Your party really does look fab, though! Darling girls. Love your blog!
