round here we're carving out our names

I have two kids and they are both officially in school. This is good on many levels. This is weird on many levels.

Milo is in first and doing a Chinese immersion program. He is so thrilled that he is learning Chinese in theory, but in reality he is still Milo, and still a boy, and he thinks school is terribly long and boring. And yesterday some boys at recess told him to "go away." And they served ravioli for lunch the other day! Barf! And his Chinese teacher only speaks Chinese to the class so he has no idea what is going on for half the day. So some hard things. But he gets to walk home with his cousins every day and that alone makes life worth living. Plus, I just think life can't be too hard when you are that handsome.

This was Milo's first day but Pearl didn't start for another week. Above, when she didn't realize what was going on. Below, bawling for hours.

Eventually her day came.

Pearl was made for school and socializing, I just worry she doesn't stop talking in class. But her teacher is warm and wonderful and her best friend and cousin Norah is in the same class!

This is where I take creepy pictures of Milo walking home from school because I can't believe he's old enough to do that and I clearly can't let go and I clearly need a baby.

This is where I keep taking "first day" shots every morning, making everyone tired of the door shots, especially my kids. Someone bring me a baby!

(The only other option for a Mormon woman in Provo is to start a business, right? Please don't make me start a business.)

1. Milo is so handsome. He's totally going to get away with loads with that eyebrow lift. Oh, and WAY cool about the chinese immersion school. I'm all about kids learning another language. It's about time America!

2. Is is kosher that I'm WAY jealous of a five year olds hair. Pearl rocks those curls and bows.

3. I'm laughing at the start up biz comment, but you make awesome quilts. I think you should sell some on etsy for baby rooms or something? Idk.

These kids of yours are darling. I love Pearl's hair and her wardrobe, and I love Milo's hair and his 1st grade attitude. Thanks for sharing. I've looked at this a half dozen times today.

if you start selling natural oils or some healthy shake or something i might have to stop reading your blog. just saying. but that baby idea is genius.

Hahahaha...natural oils for sure. It's not a pyramid scheme! It's multi-level marketing.

Thanks for the crows btw. That tape (yes tape) was my 7th-grade year. I still love those songs.

no offense, but he's waaaaaaaaaaaay to young to walk home from school! i wasn't allowed to walk home from school until i was in seventh grade, and i could only do it with like 7 other people so that i was safe!!!!! we also lived in a safe neighbor hood and everything and you litterally had to walk done 1 street to get to our house, and still most of the time i got picked up half way!!!!!!!!

I walked home from school from the time I was in kindergarten to the end of jr. high. The high school was too far to walk to, or I probably would have walked there too. Your mom was just paranoid. My kids walk to and from school together every day, too. Geesh. :D
Babies are great, Abby. They are so cute! But the problem is they don't stay babies. :D You could get a puppy. They're a lot of work and they get bigger, but their intelligence is always about that of a two year old. Ha ha! Good luck my friend!

stumbled upon your blog from kelly mccaleb. LOVE that you have a first grade son doing Chinese. so do I! love the program and love adorable 1st grade boys who do it. ps... my son walks 4 blocks to school everyday & loves the independence. i think the only scary thing about it is it means they are growing up too fast. :(
