old photos of my mother

I've been spending the last few days scanning old photos and documents of my mom's for our family blog. Finding old photos that I've never seen before is so EXCITING (all caps). It also makes me want to track down the story for every picture and write a big family history, if someone already hasn't.

My mom's dad died recently. I didn't really know him, nor did she, although she took wonderful care of him in his last years. The term dead-beat dad kind of comes to mind but then as I look through all his old photos I think I must be a dead-beat grandkid for never asking him questions about his life while I could, especially about his World War II service. Also about if he liked being a car salesman. And definitely about what he thought when he got in a horrible car accident and his wife got permanent amnesia and divorced him.

My grandma is still alive and what I want to ask her now is whether or not she thinks she would have had the best Mormon Mommy Blog on the planet in the fifties. Those three darling girls are killing me!

Such beautiful photos! I could stare at these all night.

You should definitely write a family history book. You need to write a book. Is it one of your life goals? It should be!

Miss ya. Thanks for the email!

I love these photos! I understand what you mean about being a dead-beat grandkid. Sometimes I feel the same way. I'm sorry for your loss, though. Even if you didn't know him that well, it's still sad. I wish I could give you a big hug right now.

beautiful photos! i sometimes wish we never would've introduced digital into our world. i loved the old photographs and actually having something tangebile. i have thousands of photos sitting in my computer with no hope of seeing the light of day.

and whoa to the amnesia story. that's crazy!
my great granny was given a medicine when she was in labor that basically made her crazy. she was put in the state hospital for twenty years and her husband divorced her. one day they found a medicine to cure the symptoms and she told my dad "it was like she was waking up from a long sleep." she returned to "normal" and lived with my dad as kid. crazy eh? (and hello long personal story! :) )

Love, love, love the pictures. A little wonderful life-esque. I think it is crazy/interesting to hear about everyone's grandparents stories, my grandmother has a hard life story as well, hopefully one day we will be able to hear about them. Love the post and the blog..tis wonderful.

I love love love these photos! I could spend hours looking at old photos. Is your mom the one that looks a lot like Pearl? I would love to hear/read the stories that go with them. I love family stories- really we all have some good ones. I try/tried to ask for stories from my elders but they always say that their life was boring compared to things these days, or that their life wasn't really much to talk about, or, or, or. I wish they wouldn't! There is just so much to learn or to understand- wisdom to gain, even if they are too humble to admit it. Glad you blogged- I've missed you and have been wondering if you moved or something to keep you busy ;-)

there is nothing better than old photos. i never get sick of looking at them, even when i don't know the people.

you should totally write a family history.

agree completely with angela's comment.

if you're into family history you should watch the generations project on byutv. it's kind of addicting.
