grey

we took a road trip in august from slc to disneyland and then all the way up the coast to seattle to visit friends. it was a cool trip. it was a lot of driving. too much. but we saw some beautiful things, including a grey whale swimming in the klamath river in northern california. we found out later it had been stuck there for over a month. it swam back and forth under the bridge and seemed to like the attention of the crowds of people. it was gorgeous. maybe this is cheesy, but we prayed for the whale that it could find its way back. actually i don't think it's cheesy at all but someone might. i just found out that it died over a week ago. really sad about that. glad we got to see her.

that is way sad abby! (and not cheesy at all. i always pray over little things like that too.)

can't wait to see more pictures of your epic road trip.

p.s. i hate the word/use of epic. oh well.

I've always wanted to see a whale. Sometimes I really get sucked into the Alaskan cruises that talk about whale watching and I want to buy a ticket and take that cruise.

That's so funny that Kate hates the word epic.

I cannot wait to see more photos of your trip. And I also want to go to Portland to eat all that delicious food you talked about!

i love those photos of your family :) but i'm sad to hear about the whale! and, no, praying for him is so not cheesy. i pray for the people in ambulances as they zoom past...everyone needs a prayer. xo.

First of all, prayers are never cheesy. We are all God's creations. :) Second, so sad about the whale. He is in whale heaven now for sure. And last, I love road trips. I would take them all the time if I could. I'm glad you guys had so much fun. Someday, I want to drive up the coast. Spending time with family is awesome. :) Hugs!

Your photos capture the moment perfectly. Do I always say that? I think I say it a lot- I am not just copying and pasting the same blog comment over and over. ;-)
I don't think praying for little stuff is cheesy, but lately this has been something I've been thinking about- some people have these great stories all the time of the beautiful teaching moments and faith building miracles for their children after praying for something little and it happening- but whenever my kids and I pray for little stuff like that it never happens. don't worry though, our faith is not shaken- we've seen the hand of God in other ways.

that is really incredible. although seeing pictures of whales gives me a major panic attack (seriously, it's a phobia) i liked that YOU saw one. that's neat!

that is quite the road trip! i am jealous you got to go to disneyland. wah. and did you drive up the 5 or the 101? did you pass through my home? the great central coast? (monterey and the like.)

thanks for letting me check in on you whilst you were traveling. i had to know where you were...

i had something really funny to say, but i'm seeing that it doesn't fit in with how sweet and sensitive that everyone is being.
so serious jessi says that the whale looks beautiful! what a neat thing to do with the kids. my favorite vacations growing up were the ones that involved a lot of driving and seeing new and different places. glad you were able to have a nice get-a-way!

These pictures are so beautiful Abby.

I am so sad about the whale. I just read the article linked to your post and am just about to cry with the story about the world being off balance. I've felt like the world is off balance for a while now, for all kinds of reasons. The poor sweet whale. So so sad.
