i would love to own this mug, but the shipping costs as much as the mug itself. i'm in a real quandary. my husband is scratching his head. but look at how cute the mug is!
the wedding was so cool. such pomp! and circumstance! everything was so pompous and circumstantial. it kind of made me wish i had more pomp in my life. i wouldn't love the attention of 2 billion people, but i'd love some pomp. pomp pomp pomp.
today, though, we went to see jane eyre, and i left the theater feeling pretty great about being poor, obscure, and plain. pretty dang great. i hope kate doesn't see the movie and start feeling bad about herself.
so this obviously raises the question: jane or kate? rochester or william? thornfield hall or buckingham palace? years of mistreatment and abuse in your childhood or paparazzi covering your every move for the rest of your life? i like to play these little scenarios in my head rather than address what my children are doing at the moment with the stapler. they didn't have office supplies in jane's time, so you can guess which i'd choose.

I could use some more pomp. but i bought a rug today instead that goes against my very predictable (read boring) decorating style.
"rather than address what my children are doing at the moment with the stapler." funniest thing i have read all month.
Funny post, all right! Ha! I knew you'd be interested in the wedding. You're half English, you know.
I enjoyed Jane Eyre as well, although I felt they went out of their way to make her hair especially plain. Painfully plain.
But that was my only complaint.
i'm rolling about the stapler. and the whole post really. although i don't know what pomp is. does that make me stupid? probably. i'm half way through jane eyre and am mad at you for going to the movie without book club..
I love Jane Eyre! I will have to watch that one. And, I say "Jane." Definitely "Jane."
All I can say is he lied to her! ;) I didn't get into the wedding either, but I've been down lately. I do think Kate looked elegant in her dress(es), and I do love a little pomp. Paparazzi can be avoided if you work at it! :D
Confession: I know nothing about Jane Eyre and far to much about Kate Middleton.
Sounds like I need to read more books and watch less tv.
Oh, and the stapler bit? hilarious.
I've never felt so compelled to feel sorry for someone i didn't know. No kate for me (although, I'd take her legs thank you very much).
How can you deny Rochester? Mysterious, passionate...have you seen the 2009 version with Toby Stephens (sacredly the best). I'll take jane without the ear-loop braids and middle part, thanks.
i want pippa's dress. and kate's. maybe i'll have 2 weddings. 3rd time's a charm.
you crack me up, abby ;)
A new "Jane Eyre?" Nice! I found myself really not relating to Kate, same age as me but a bride, not a crazed mom of two.
But I loved every single minute of it too. As for Charlotte Bronte, she died carrying her first baby of the same complications I have. SO. . . I'd definitely rather be living now! I did, however, name my puppy after her.
you are a genius! here is my argument:
although mr. rochester is gruff and has a ... interesting... background. there is no doubt of his love for jane. and i'm pretty sure he's sitting on a pretty penny. but he's blind. and taking care of an old blind man would sort of suck.
but kate is like, really skinny. and my name is already kate so the switch would be relatively easy, a couple minutes at the SS office to change my name. wham-bam! i'm a princess! but on the flip side- william isn't very cute. i'd totally have gone for harry if i was her...
I think you should totally capture the moment and get the mug.
jane. she's a character worth remembering. for worthy reasons.
no comparison.
You make me smile. :)
Love that mug! Do you read the House that Lars Built?
And I'd have to pick kate. It might be nice to be so freaking gorgous. That, and I'm a fan of modern ammenities.
loved your post... i can relate in the way I think of the same things.. I have not seen new JE 'cause I still can't get over the 2006 version with toby stevens...I'm afraid to like any other version of the movie more than I liked that one...
and the wedding was absolutely beautiful! I thought kate was very elegant and so graceful! loved it!!
I'm not a fan of the mug....
I would choose kate. less romantic maybe but a lot more practical... and if she is a good person doing good things, I think her life will be much more fulfilling than jane's.
Jane all the way. And if Rochester really looks like Michael Fassbender, then I'd definitely pick him over the prince!
