i write this sitting in the kitchen sink

3 december

finished! this one is special because i used a lot of old fabrics from jamie's mom and grandmother and even cut squares from one of my mother-in-law's old housecoats from the nineties! now that's cool. the backing is an old sheet i found at savers. of course the squares are crooked because i have yet to gain a testimony of pinning. pearl is luckily not very judgy.

4 december
we went into the grocery store for potatoes and came out with starry eyes from meeting santy claus!

sidenote: i also performed in a community choir performance this night and there were some very obvious polygamists in the audience. our area is full of them. the first instinct is to kind of gawk, which isn't a nice thing and i stopped. i was reminded of a few months ago when i told jamie i love the amish and wondered if i couldn't be some kind of mormon amish? he said, "yeah, it's called a polygamist." it made me laugh.

5 december

found: jamie's mission countdown chart. his mom added a sticker every day for two years. i was too busy being 10.

ha! just kidding. 15.

genius! pure talent!

My almost five year old doesn't really draw much, so I get really excited over every little stick figure and want to keep it forever. That how is great. That book is my fav.

That how? Was I trying to spell house phonetically? I will never know.

Oh my goodness I love these photos and your witty commentary and my hilarious brother for calling Mormon Amish 'Polygamists'! I'm still trying to pin down a time for photos with my uber busy husband and will get to you when he answers me. ;-)

YES everyone SHOULD read that BOOK!

And YES you SHOULD make me a QUILT!

I love this post! But I just wouldn't like it if you became Amish. You would have to go live with them, and then I would never see you again. :( That, and they don't use electricity. They do use gas, though to heat their water heaters and such. I googled it. ;)

it took me forever to read ICtC but when i finally got around to it i couldn't put it down. also, i think that the wonky squares are a really nice homemade touch and i thought it was on purpose! so, keep up the good work.

Yay! That quilt is lovely. Also if you were Amish, you probably wouldn't blog so much, and I don't think that would be awesome.

at first i read that you were in a "communist choir" and i was very confused :)
(i blame it on finals season over here- blargh!)
also, i am so so fascinated with polygamists and amish- but neither exists in switzerland (to my knowledge, though some amish originated here). loved the mormon amish polygamist joke!!

I love this post (as usual). Thanks for keeping my family in your prayers.
I think you're very talented, Abby. I love the quilt! And I have to tease Joe about how old I was when he went on a mission, too (14:)

you know what's really funny? i think i actually know exactly which fabric came from the mom-in-law's 'housecoat'. it looks really great abby!

and i remember my mom writing on jamie's missionary board. but i wasn't 15. sadly.

The quilt is absolutely beautiful! I love it. I also LOVE kids drawings. The santa pictures are sweet. I have never read that book, but I looked at the link and it sounds totally like a book Ana would love so I put it on hold at the library. I still chuckle a bit about the "mormon amish" -sometimes i need a reality check like that when I dream about living a couple centuries in the past. I also loved the missionary chart- that's kind of cool. :) And I also got a good chuckle out of the too busy being 12. hahaha :) Often Brian will remember fondly something from high school and I will say oh yeah I remember that in elementary school! He doesn't like that so much. sometimes 3 years isn't much and sometimes it is. :)
