sweet reunion
getting packages here is like christmas morning. our sweet mothers have both sent us some. the romantic in me also enjoys going into the little post office downtown and adding my signature to a HUGE ledger that looks right out of the 18th century. it is thrilling to me that no computers are involved. and then they make you open the package in front of them and they search it and decide what it's worth and decide how much in duties you owe. that part is not in the least romantic or fun. luckily, our little homesick hearts place a higher premium on the goodies we've been sent than do the postal workers. and you'll never guess what i got today...
a package full of things shalynna thought i might miss from home. it was perfectly thoughtful in every way. i love that girl. i feel like all that mess with thinking we were going to live on grand cayman was worth it because it was the reason she and i became friends.
here's me headed to the post office this afternoon. greasy, slightly befuddled, with an 80s hairdo. it's how i roll these days. now excuse me while i go stuff my face with red vines in the bathroom so my

Sending candy in the mail = the ultimate expression of love.
Oh, hooray! I've been thinking of you and your need for redvines. I'm so glad some one could get them to you. Don't feel bad, I sneak off and eat candy so my kids don't take any sometimes too. So glad I am not the only one! :D
wow. p.s. is that domino's in the background?
ahh red vines are the best. they make Mondays so much better.
i wanted to send you red vines. i forgot to follow up with my request for your email. (it was the day you got 50,000 comments:)) my intentions rock. my actions, not so much...but email me anyway if you get a minute. i would love your address and i have a couple of random questions for you...

and you make greasy, slightly befuddled, and 80's hair look hot. And i'm guessing here, but i'd guess you make the nissan sunny look pretty hot too:).
hahaha! I am so glad you left out the part where you sat at the dock warehouse for two hours!!!!! Sorry!!! Miss you. Are you going up to school tomorrow? Melissa and I were talking about taking the bus from here up there. Do you want to meet us? Could you give me a ride home?
yay!
hot cheetos are the equivalent of red vines for me and i know how ecstatic i get when my mom sends some for me in the mail.
enjoy!
:)
Abby--you totally pull off the '80s 'do with style.
hooray for red vines!
go ahead and stuff your face in the bathroom girl! you deserve them just for you!
Abby- I'm so glad you liked the package. I've never known anyone who loves red vines as much as you do.
This bottom picture is awesome. It reminds me of a movie or something.
I forgot about the duties!!!! That is the worse. My mom sent me some clothing I ordered off of Forever 21 online when I was in Cayman. I specifically told her to take off the tags so that it would look like I already owned it all (I'm so dishonest). Those Caymanians didn't fall for it. I was so mad. I might have even cried.
i was with her at target when she started this little package- her thoughtfulness just kills me. its so cute how creative she was with everything too. i'm glad you two are friends.
oh and it would have been like we were swimming in the same water if i would have got in................................................... i really thought it would be a lot warmer!
I love it. I like hearing about the ledger. It's actually kind of nice maybe that they let you open it first. Maybe it doesn't matter. When we were in Germany we received a package from my mom of my husbands jacket he left at the house. We received a bill inside from customs saying it was surely over $100 value and we would need to pay taxes on it. Blah. I didn't like getting packages already rummaged through. Here's a funny story for you- in a ward I was in once the primary did a get to know you type thing at the beginning and they mentioned the pianist's favorite ice cream- her kids blurted out "No way, that's not her favorite! We've never even had that kind!" The pianist just smiled. All moms knew, and maybe were jealous she pulled off hiding ice cream from them for that long (they were older than 5 or 6 because that's class I was teaching).
Love the picture of you driving! On the left. I'm bringing more Red Vines from your Iowa friend Kim, so you'll really be happy.
I would be very happy to see Red Vines too. I love those!
so happy for you!
one thing though . . .
really??? really red vines over twizzlers??? hmmmmmmm.
I love getting packages, and I live in the States!
i am with emz. red vines are pretty good. they are candy, afterall. but when they are stale, they are so bad. i am a twizzlers girl.
are you used to driving on the left yet? great skills you're learning.
savor the sweetness....
love: red vines, your sense of humor, your crazy 80s hair. I do SO enjoy following your life on here!
Red vines!! I am so happy for you! And why does "greasy" "80s" look so good on you? It really does.
OH I LOVE RED VINES!
I MESS RED VINES
Care packages keep me going :)
My most recent one contained "Q-bel" peanut butter chocolate wafers from Whole Foods (they taste like organic reeses) and I savored them like no other.
Yay for packages from home!
p.s. I love how you sneak them in the bathroom- I do that all the time when I take care of my cousins :)
You look great driving your car! Which one of the kids snapped it?
red vines are the shiz. i bet they taste even better as forbidden (unavailable) fruit.
ok... so there i was working away listening to ingrid michealson and on came the song "far away" and for some reason that song so reminds me of you. I was like, this could totally be abby's song. now of course you don't have 3 girls or a boy on a bar stool and so on... but i love that song and you. somewhere in my mind you two fit :)
not sure if anything is better.
