luv u st. george (the best cat i ever owned but never knew)

we've owned two kittens in the past month. the first was white with darling little spots and we called her lemon. she literally jumped into our car and -you guessed it- our hearts. pearl smothered her with all the love she could muster, which was a whole lotta smothering love. and then, the next day, lemon was gone. we hope she jumped into someone else's car, even though that hurts our feelings. because there is another likely alternative. (r-a-c-c-o-o-n-s).

we went on a hike up the hill behind the house last week and heard the whines of our next little friend. it followed us home and we fed her and milo named the little orange gal batman. and once again pearl had something to smother with love. but batman wasn't happy being an outside cat and was following other hikers around too, until a lady knocked on the door yesterday and practically told me she was taking batman because she fostered animals for the humane society. and i kind of shrugged my soldiers and let her. and i haven't told my kids. and i miss that little bugger.

and this is the story of the month the unthinkable happened- we became a cat family. (ashley smith, are you proud?)

the end.

p.s. this is pearl when she has a kitty:

this is pearl when her mother heartlessly gives it away to the first strange cat lady she sees:

(paul giamatti face. i told you it was real.)

St. George "Georgia" the Cat loved me best. Hands down.

I'm kind of spooked that you keep taking in random cats. Aren't there cat fleas and germs to worry about? Also, I find it a little inspiring. We have randoms walking through our backyard all the time. You can come get one and take it home.

unbelievable channeling of giamatti.

i'm laughing so hard at this. i've never seen pearl sad. but the paul giamatti resemblance is killing me. that is so nice of you though, to take a cat in and feed it. i would never do that. i would tell it to leave me alone no doubt. but that is also because i was once attacked by a stray cat and rushed to the hospital. ripped my face apart. i'll show you the scar.

anyway have you seen this picture?

everything in her outfit is so freaking cute. and her hair is beautiful but ugh. her legs!

St. George was a scary, non-cuddling cat. i longed for a kitten who wanted to be cuddled!

I too, am surprised you are taking in strays. You are so kind. Not me.

oh, pearl. i feel your pain.

that is hilarious. not the sad pearl face though. i'm glad there are people out there who will take care of stray cats. good job abby.

people, i have to clarify. these are not cats, they are KITTIES. there is no way you would not take it in.

paul giamatti- Bahahaha!

i. must. resist. getting. the. children. an. animal.

because then its over. and it's plastic baggies of poop and dog hair for me (and only me) from then on out.

This may have been one of your best posts of all time, girl. The range of little girl emotions captured in pictures is just to much. And Milo named the cat batman? I'm ready to leap buildings in a single bound after reading this post.

I don't think it's quite Paul Giamatti...but we have had a cat (the same one on multiple occasions) show up at our house too. Once while I had the garage door and back door open because I was bringing in groceries and it almost scared the crap out of me because I didn't see it come in, but then there he was in my bedroom. He was back just this morning on my front stairs wanting milk. I think it's because I've fed him a number of times, I put a stop to that though.

hahaha I'm laughing at your comment to the comments (and also the Paul Giamatti comparison). A kittie IS a cat, Abby. Face it, you are a cat lover now. Just stop now before you end up buying an extra freezer for the garage. (get it?)

I never finished my story about cat-sitting for the people in Grand Cayman. We loved doing it because we got to live on the beach and they spoiled us rotten with gift cards and thank-you's, etc. But, it was pretty weird to see mugs with pictures of the cats that said, "World's Greatest Dad," or getting a birthday card (and now emails) addressed to Auntie Shalynna and Uncle David signed by Eli and Roxy (the cats) with intentional spelling errors and children's handwriting. Cat people are weirdos and you are becoming one...

OH I am so proud! Cats and other critters are what make the world go 'round.

I wish you were here in NYC with me and that our toughest decision of the day included choosing what restaurant to have our husbands take us out to.

poor pearl. that picture breaks your heart. please, steal a "kittie"- as you call it.. from a neighbor, pet store, or other animal shelter to make those dimples come back!

You are way nicer than me. I would havr left the cats where they were for sure. But all my oldest daughter talks about is owning her own cat when we move to "our farm". We'll see....

What a darling Pearl is. Cats are so much fun and have so much love to give. Too bad they also have fur which causes a lot of people to sneeze.

your comment this morning reminded me that i didn't comment on the fact that you compared your daughter to paul giamatti. i laughed sooooooooo hard. you must, too, every time she cries. aww.

Oh my that was traumatic for me!!! lol poor Pearl!

I've always found rescue cats soooo friendly, like they know they need you! So for pets they are the way to go. Hope you have another kitty soon!
