jamie wants me to call this post: "my husband is SO AMAZING that he's taking me to the caribbean for 18 months."

well the stinky news is that we're not moving to ireland. but the pretty awesome news is that we're moving to the cayman islands this september. we'll be there for 18 months and then our plan is to do a rotation in london and then finish our rotations in nyc. that is the plan. we'll see what really goes down. but i like having a plan. and 4 years seems so much shorter when you break it up with different countries, yes? it also helps our mothers rest a little easier at night to know that we will not be abroad forever.

the cayman islands are between central america and cuba and are part of the british west indies. we will be sitting comfortably between our friends castro and zelaya. as well as (queen) elizabeth and johnny (depp). in theory.

i know the idea of medical school in the caribbean is a little odd, because i used to think so too. but then, once you start looking into it, everyone is doing it! including your husband's childhood friends, your old yw leader, everyone! it is very legit. and good for people like us who have families and made the medical school decision a little late in the game. jamie and i have always had big dreams of living abroad and although the carribean never crossed our minds, i feel like this is a real blessing and going to be a good experience for all of us. plus i get to buy like 10 new swimsuits, you guys! jk, probably only 8.

i'm still wrapping my head around the idea of all this and a lot of the time it gives me a stomach ache but i just "met" a darling darling girl through her blog who has been living in cayman for a few years and has been giving me tons of advice. the thing is, she is very tragically returning to the states this month. i'm seriously devasted about it. bad timing. oh well. anyway, i am counting on lots of visitors. please come lay on the beach with me. you will be doing me such a service. i'm serious.

How fabulous!!!! I can just see you living there. I'm delighted (pardon the pun) for you!

Can I ask you some questions re this route of medical school. Have you got email?

I am down for that. We were going to visit you in Ireland but lying on the beach in the islands is even better. This will be a marvelous experience for the kids as well as you and Jamie. Give him our best wishes.

Hi - I'm so happy for you! My family is from Trinidad and I grew up there. I have multiple cousins who went to medical school at the University of the West Indies medical campus in Trinidad and Jamaica. They now practice all over the world. Your kids are going to love it!

Hey congrats! I'm sure you'll have a great time and the years will go by whether you do something fabulous or not - so you might as well live in a few countries and get a few M.D.s, right?

Okay I am 100% jealous of you and your family. That is AWESOME! I've been to Cayman Islands before and it is breathtaking... just SO beautiful. The water is so warm and clear and oh man, I am jealous! My brother also served part of his mission there (I don't know if it still is but it was part of the Kingston Jamaica mission). If you ever go visit other islands, the Turks & Caicos islands are absolutely BEAUTIFUL as well.

You're kidding right? This is the COOLEST plan EVER! Plus LONDON for a year, and NYC. I'm dying. Can I come and be your nanny for 2 years while my husby lives in the desert and hangs out with dead people {aka MCC Mortuary Science program.} Please?

Congrats on the acceptance. Very CooL! ;)

When I try to launder money in the Caymans, I'll definitely have to look you guys up (hypothetically speaking, of course). Congrats Jamie and Abby. The Caymans...London...NYC...do you guys just ENJOY paying ridiculously high rent??? ;)

That's exciting news. If you were to turn back the clock 12 years (say...the time I shot Jamie in the eye with a beebee gun and came within millimeters of blinding him for life), I would have never guessed I'd be a lawyer and he'd be a doctor...but come to think of it, when I shot him, he did tell me to pop the large pocket of blood that formed on his eye with a hot needle...so maybe I should have had a premonition that he'd gravitate toward the healing arts! Congrats again. P.S. I should revoke my man card for looking at your blog, but for a blog, it's not all that bad.

freakin awesome. roll out a sleeping bag for us we're on our way. holy crap. i'm so excited.

First of all, Austin!! A man card :O! you will alway be the one of the funniest people to walk the planet. Abby and Jamie, how awesome!! I would LOVE to do something like that. I keep trying to find a way to pack up and move to Hawaii for a year. Too chicken!! Oh my goodness lady- you are gonna have one heck of a tan and for that I will be eternally jealous!!!

I was waiting for you to officially announce the news!

So, I think I win for being the most jealous of your family. We leave tomorrow. I am DYING. I don't think I have anymore tears left. My point is... you will love it!

You never emailed back. Did I overwhelm you? Just kidding. But I leave for Europe on Monday so if you have any last minute questions ask me now!

Thanks for the link- what a compliment!

Abby, that's really great. We will definitely try to visit soon.

i will be there with bells on. Yea for you guys for having a dream and setting out to achieve it! You'll never ever regret it.

also abby i was intrigued by something you said...."plus i get to buy like 10 new bathing suits..."
Wha? i live for the day when i feel like i get to buy a bathing suit, instead of 'i have to buy a bathing suit'. i hate buying bathing suits. i think i would rather go to the dentist 10 times.

that makes you all the more interesting abby. and darling and very very brave!

i guess i will have to come there to begin the bffness. i think i can handle that.

Congrats guys! That does sound like so much fun. Even though actual schooling doesn't always coincide with fun, the actual part of beaches and sunshine definitely will!

I am so excited for you. We loved visiting Mitch & Megan on that island. The water there is amazing. I loved just sitting on the beach at night and watching the sun going into the ocean. You will love it, it really does sizzle. The best part of the place for me was going to church, it's like that is really where the spirit is.

The last comment is really from Anna Mae Tippetts. I am on M&M's computer.
