north + south

All of you A&E Pride and Prejudice lovers, go watch the BBC's North and South. Right now. Go get it.

I can never decide whether I enjoy Dickens or Austen better, and this is a perfect mix of the two (based on the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell).

And do you
see that man up there? He is Mr. Thornton and he is better than Mr. Darcy. Might I also add- with my husband's blessing- that he is smokin'.

{Thank you, Wendy, for the awesome recommendation.)

Is that scene at the train station not breathtaking? Seriously. I caught my breath, felt my heart triple in size, and had tears flowing from my eyes. Wowzers. Double wowzers!

I mean, the way he's looking at her when she's trying to explain the business deal. I thought I would DIE it was so good.

I, too, love mr. thornton! I have to say though that after watching the bbc version of persuasion twice (yes, twice) this weekend, I've decided that mr. wentworth is . . . I have no words to describe it. even david admits that he's pretty phenomenal. wow.

Hi, I acutally found your blog while looking for another. But I enjoy your posts and especially love that you're from AZ, as am I. Anyway, I saw that you love North and South and I want to make another Elizabeth Gaskell recommendation that I think you'll love- Wives and Daughters. So good. Really, so good. I watched the whole thing in a day, which is almost embarrassing becuase it is quite a few hours.

liz and emily, thank you for the recommendations! is there anything better than a good love story? gaskell is new to me so i am excited to read/see more. and liz, i have read persuasion and LOVED it but haven't seen the movie in its entirety. can't wait!

Oh yes, I am almost embarrassed that I have not told you about Wives & Daughters. That was my first Gaskell and I thought I would die in parts of that i s so good. I felt like my heart was seizing up on me. The book is good too. Then I read Cranford--it was good but not my fave, but the movie is pretty entertaining.

I loved that book!

I love Mr. Thornton too! I think Richard is so good in that movie! Especially the final scene, I can never get enough of it. He is so much cuter than John I always pictured reading the book.

Love, love love, this movie! You could check out Wives and Daughters, it's by the same author. North and South is better though.

I am a little skeptical, BBC is not my THANG, let's say. But your over zealous recommendation finds me curious!

I don't think I am "blog" material... Here are some common threads I've noticed bloggers have, which I do not:

1. Being a mom
2. Creativity
3. Loyalty to the blog, I am sure I'd forget about it for a week or so, and that would be a sin in bloggers world!

what the world needs is a hilarious blog, and that has your name written all over it, les. you know you wanna.
