rocky mountain high

We went to Colorado this weekend with Jamie's parents to visit his grandparents. Jamie and his stepdad dug ditches, mowed the lawn, fixed broken things. Jamie's mom kept an eye on Milo as he filled his pockets with rocks, touched every breakable thing in the house, threw rocks, and generally ran around like crazy. Pearl alternately cried and was happy. I... I read a book. It was lovely. Colorado is a beautiful place.

quad love.
more quad love.
hard at work or hardly workin?

cute little house. except on the inside are a couple of stuffed sheep that scared the junk out of milo.

Years ago, when Jamie's grandparents were assigning heirlooms to their grandchildren, Jamie was just a wee little one. So, while others got fine china, furniture, etc., Jamie got his little heart's desire: a wooden "chicken coop" where he loved to play with his stuffed animals and climb in to take naps. A chicken coop. When Jamie told me this after we were married, I said, "A chicken coop?!" and he hung his head in shame. Well, this weekend I was admiring Grandma S's lovely milk glass and she up and sent me home with them! These pieces are even more special because they originally belonged to his mom's mother as well. I feel so honored to have them.

Those mountains are gorgeous! I bet the air was fantastic.

I remember when my kids were little bitty ones (and close together in age, just like Milo and Pearl), reading a book without interruption seemed like such decadent BLISS. :-)

Glad you had some quiet time to yourself! :-)

Sorry about the chicken coup thing. I hope Jamie ends up with Dad's tools. The ones in the "garage" with the vintage Keep on Truckin' sticker in the top lid. I remember that box from when I was a wee lad in Aspen at Polozzi's Garage and Dad was turnin bolts on Alfa Romeos.

I have lobbied so hard for that to happen as I can't think of anyone who would hold them in his hands like Dad did besides my younger brother.

Cool glasses. I have often looked at them. Never admired them as you do - best that they are in your care.

As for being in Colorado, I quote the immortal ND, "Lucky."

I've seen the chicken coop, and it is cool. It's a perfect place to store stuffed animals.

I love the milk glass! I too received glass delights from Ryan's grandmother. I love them! Also, your teeth are really pretty. Glad that you had a great time!

Abby, I love that we have read a lot of the same books. It's like we've taken the same road trips, worn the same glasses, read the same minds.
Jamie, hold your head up high. I know what a chicken coop can be for a child. We had two big ones. We used to play dolls/house in them. Then one became our rabbit's house. Then we tore them down. I have fond memories, although some of them were creepy. (The paint was all scratched up on the outside from bears.)

I didn't get china. And I think Wendy got half of a dish set. The chicken coop was awesome. I like the milk glass. How did G Sharp get them from G Smith?
