I forgot to mention that the day of Eliza's wedding was my birthday. The big 24. It was a wonderful way to celebrate. That morning we took a bus tour of Uptown with a rather interesting tour guide. Now I know where Madonna stays when she's in town.
So long Big Apple...

Back to Philly (after a rather stressful bus ride in which we thought we'd left without Dad and Neil). Then Mom + Dad and Neil + Diana went back to AZ and we were left to actually take care of our own kids for a few days!
In front of City Hall.
The only Hillary supporters on the whole east coast, I swear. I don't believe what the polls say.
Playing while waiting in line for the Liberty Bell.
Ham and a half.
Statue dedicated to the Founders.

We took a carriage ride through Old Town and saw all the historical sites and where the Who's Who of Philadelphia lived.
Ben Franklin's grave. Everyone was throwing money on it, so we did too. Still have no idea why. We're sheep.
Before we left, we ate at Dinic's in Reading Terminal, home of the best pork sandwich in the city says The Arizona Republic. We definitely agree.

Looks like you guys had a GREAT time! I love all of these terrific pictures (I love Pearl's scrunchy face--too cute)!
You're only 24? WOW! I remember being 24.... my hubby and I lived in an apartment which was the size of a thimble, with 2 cats. :-)
You really have a beautiful family Abby - I know you feel blessed and you ARE! :-)
DiNic's is good, but...
Thanks for giving the details of your trip- so we can all enjoy vicariously :) It looks like you truly had a great trip- very memorable!
West Side Story. That's where the fight scene with the Sharks and the Jets was filmed. West Side Story. Ever heard of it? AG
Hey Amye, keep it down. Voices carry. Common courtesy.
Ryan, it's true. We loved the sandwich but we have no idea if it's the best. Maybe you should do a pork sandwich review on your blog...
It's more like " eveh hoid of it?" AG
Happywife, our apartment is thimble-like in proportions, but replace the two cats with two kids. :)
Wendy, I love the scrunchy face too. She's a goofball.
Amy, thanks for enjoying the details!
Right there is where Rosemary's Baby was filmed. Rosemary's Baby. Evah hoid of it? AG
As for the coins on Franklin's grave, we were told by the tour guide the practice comes from any of the following:
*local tradition says the practice will bring the tosser
good luck, or
* in ancient Greece, coins were left to pay transport
to the next life, or
* the adage "a penny saved is a penny earned" AG
I completely regret not going through Philadelphia when we were back there. It was that or Gettysburg, and we opted for the closer one to us. Still great, but so much to see in Philly!!! I'm envious of all the cool things you got to see.
Some day. :)

those are such awesome pictures - why'd even bother getting a fancy camera when i should just learn how to take neat ones without it!?

The weather looks quite nice in Philly.
Gorgeous photos! Philly looks so charming.
And only one Hillary supporter? Intriguing.
So glad you got some time on your own too! I love love love NYC!
See any celebs?
p.s. happy belated!
I just looked up Kal Penn, Abby. (He was our celebrity sighting.) He was born Kalpen Modi, but professionally he uses the anglicized name, which apparently appeals to anglos. He was in National Lampoon's Van Wilder and the Harold and Kumar movie. We saw him in the new wing of the Philadelphia Art Museum. I was standing by him at the info desk and when he walked away, the people behind the desk got excited. I read that he is a guest lecturer at Penn this semester. AG
