excessive picture time

we like our neighborhood friends.

pearl has recently turned into what her cousin grace would call a "cuddlebug." we love it.

did you know that milo is a cowboy? he is rarely seen without his boots. after a bath the other day, he ran straight to his room to put them on. nevermind pants, shirt, diaper... i took pictures, but i'll spare you the bare bum shots. i am just wondering if the nba will let him play in boots rather than regulation sneakers? hmmmm. we'll have to figure that one out when he gets drafted. (actually, basketball is totally out. baseball is the new basketball. it is kind of a relief to move on, but i would kind of rather watch steve nash shoot hoops than randy johnson throw strikes. you know? i take that back. i would love to be at the b.o.b. {what is it called now?} watching the dbacks play right now. love you randy j.)

the many moods of pearly grace. who still does not sleep through the night or take consistent naps. who i still love with all my heart.

benny boy

i was a little overzealous with the zoom.

just like a faucet that leaks, and there is comfort in the sound

Last night was the big concert. I was so excited because I have recently fallen in love with Rogue Wave and was most excited to see them. And then the rain and cold happened. And then the two hour technical delay happened. So after waiting in a (literal) mile-long line in the cold cold coldness, the concert started at 7:00 instead of 5:00, and Rogue Wave was the night's casualty. They didn't get to play. Boo.

But Tegan + Sara were really fun live and Death Cab was awesome as always. I am a little bummed that they've made it big because now the fans aren't really hard-core. Like what is wrong with this picture when the person most visibly rocking out to the band is a 24-year-old mother of two (me)? We last saw them play 4 years ago and they were not yet radio friendly which meant that they were still friendly enough to come chat with us after the concert. But no more. Oh well. Ben Gibbard was looking especially svelte, which we are hoping is the result of Jenny Craig rather than Mary Jane and her friends. If you know what I mean.

Every time I attend a concert I come home feeling like maybe I missed my calling in life to be a guitarist. But I like the boy guitarists best, and I don't want to be a boy. So oh well.

This is what we look like, at a concert.

crafty - fty + ppy

I made some bibs the other day using this Nested tutorial. Very easy. But satisfying and useful to boot. (Don't you dare look at my seams.)

I was going to give them as gifts, but they are rough, so Pearl gets to keep these and I will just keep practicing my straight stitches.

I also made Pearl a sock lamb. I checked out Sock + Glove, a Japanese picture tutorial, from the library. It is a lovely book. But my lamb did not turn out so lovely. He is rather homely, in fact. I've decided it's not entirely my fault, though. When I am sewing or doing something crafty I am always rushing because my children are either napping and about to wake up any minute, or they are awake and absolutely hovering over me. And eating thread (Pearl). My craft area is the kitchen table, so I don't like to keep my craft junk out for several days. Hence...the rushing and crapifying of crafts. But I aspire to craftiness, so I will keep on keepin' on.

asian noodle salad

This is a really delicious salad. We ate it 'til our bellies hurt. Lots o' produce makes the checkout boy at the grocery store kind of grumpy, though. All of those numbers to key in manually. Sorry, checkout boy.

i love: a mother's list

i love that i am a mom of two babies at the ripe old age of 24. i love that i've never regretted having them so young.

i love my fabulous little family. i love that my camera has a self-timer. i love my hair in this picture. (that last one is a lie. but i love that i have the freedom to hate my hair?? i'm trying here.)

i love my new yellow frye heels that i have been admiring for well over a year, but surely they were much too expensive, but surely my husband decided he didn't care and bought them for me anyway! (love you babe.) (p.s. this picture does absolutely no justice to the fabulosity of these shoes.)

i love my mom. i love all of the various representations of moms in my life. i love my grandma abbie, who passed away almost 5 years ago but whose gold "a" pendant i finally found a chain for and got to wear for the first time, appropriately, today. (i love that she received the pendant in 1927 for participating in debating.)

and i love my pearly girl and the fact that i know all of her digestive organs are functioning at 100% because she pooped all over my white skirt during sacrament meeting and now i am home cleaning her up and blogging instead of learning what a special thing it is to be a mother. but i love that i already knew that anyway.

but then there is the issue of the public pool

What's the deal with all of the cute one-pieces lately? I love it. The problem is, how do I get a tan before I even think of wearing one of these?

When I was younger and I'd say, "I wish I was tanner, " my brother would say, "D.J. Tanner?"

rocky mountain high

We went to Colorado this weekend with Jamie's parents to visit his grandparents. Jamie and his stepdad dug ditches, mowed the lawn, fixed broken things. Jamie's mom kept an eye on Milo as he filled his pockets with rocks, touched every breakable thing in the house, threw rocks, and generally ran around like crazy. Pearl alternately cried and was happy. I... I read a book. It was lovely. Colorado is a beautiful place.

quad love.
more quad love.
hard at work or hardly workin?

cute little house. except on the inside are a couple of stuffed sheep that scared the junk out of milo.

Years ago, when Jamie's grandparents were assigning heirlooms to their grandchildren, Jamie was just a wee little one. So, while others got fine china, furniture, etc., Jamie got his little heart's desire: a wooden "chicken coop" where he loved to play with his stuffed animals and climb in to take naps. A chicken coop. When Jamie told me this after we were married, I said, "A chicken coop?!" and he hung his head in shame. Well, this weekend I was admiring Grandma S's lovely milk glass and she up and sent me home with them! These pieces are even more special because they originally belonged to his mom's mother as well. I feel so honored to have them.
