Week 33 and feelin' fine*

I haven't been tracking our little lady's growth like I did with Milo. So I checked it out today. She is about four pounds, 17 inches, and is starting to dream while she sleeps. (How do they know that?) I am beginning to realize that I am much closer to giving birth than I realized. That is good and bad. I am excited to see Jamie be the father of a little girl. He and Milo are best buddies, but Jamie will be a slave to this one. She will be spoiled rotten. It will be cute. Milo is getting more interested in babies, too. Hopefully that is a good thing. I worry that he will feel neglected, because he requires a lot of attention. I love the little guy. I have to remind myself that much of the reason we're having another baby so soon is so that he will have a best friend in his sister.

*I'm actually pretty uncomfortable, sleep-deprived, and plagued with reflux. I hate when pregnant women complain, but I had to let that out. I think I've actually become one of those complainers. Shoot!

My hair is a little bit orange

And, no, I will never learn my lesson with store bought hair color. And, yes, this is approximately the bazillionth time my hair has been a funky hue. (Refer to Sarah and Mark's wedding pictures for additional evidence.)

(But I have to say Jamie did a fantastic job with the sub-par materials he had. He is my stylist-in-a-snap. Rachel will be adding some correctional highlights on the morrow.)

I am grateful today...

For a silly son who makes me laugh.

For an active daughter who doesn't ever let me forget she's in there!

For my health and the health of my loved ones. (Especially for my nephew Lincoln, who does
NOT have cancer!)

For my nephew Elliot, who is 8 years old
and going to be baptized!

That LOST is on summer hiatus. (I actually love the show, but I could use the break from the subsequent Wednesday night disturbing dreams.)

Good new music. (I am liking Feist.)

For a tasty little creme brule treat I bought at Target. (Thirty-one grams of fat, and loving every bite!)

For Anthropologie's pretty website. (Browsing it whilst daydreaming of a $10,000 shopping spree, post-pregnancy body.)

To remember that our Rocky Point
trip is in less than a month!

That the little missus makes her debut exactly two months from today! (Pretty please.)

To be reminded how much I love my husband, because he is out of town and I am going CUH-RAZY!

The cravings. Oh the cravings.

Prior to having ever been pregnant, I would've told you that pregnancy cravings were pretty much baloney. I just didn't understand why carrying a baby entitled a woman to demand pickles or ice cream or whatever.

But now- Now it is just the gospel truth.

I NEED certain foods in my life. The balance of sweet and salty is key. The other day I ate jambalaya and a rocky road ice cream cone simultaneously and enjoyed every moment of it. Today I've been daydreaming about chinese food and gelato. I think if I were a filthy rich celebrity I would've chartered my private jet to Florence and anywhere in Southeast Asia by now and would be chowing down instead of just blogging about it. I'm thinking a scoop of stracciatella and a scoop of fig or strawberry...(to start with)...

Anyone else craving anything? (Pregnancy not required.)

That's my dawg

I'd like to give a shout out to Milo James, who slept last night from 8:30 PM to 7:30 AM! Woohoo! Props, Milo, props.

Feliz Dia de Mamas

Happy Mothers Day to the many wonderful examples of mothers I have in my life.

And especially to my own mother...

Thank you for being the best example of someone who is fully devoted to her children, always interested in their lives, never too busy to help them, loves to be near them, and adores her grandchildren! I love you!

(A good example of the kind of mom she is: During my disastrous first year of college, she would call me multiple times a day and sing encouraging songs she'd made up to the tune of Broadway hits. Nice!)

16 months

I know that these kinds of things are only interesting to me as his mother, but I thought I'd document some of Milo's recently developed tricks and traits, especially as it's beginning to sink in that pretty soon it won't be just the three of us anymore.

Words
"Who loves Daddy?"...."I DO!"
"Baby!" (He either points to my tummy or his own when saying this.)
"Woah." (Whenever he see something interesting.)
"Rub rub rub rub!" (Barking like a dog, but the sound applies to any animal he sees.)
"Dada."
"No, no, no." (This is said in a reprimanding, high-pitched tone. If he is in the other room and I hear him say this, I know he is up to no good.)
"Ball." (He is quite the little athlete and can dunk the hoop in the church nursery.)
"Tikka tikka tikka." (Don't know what this means, but it reminds us of Dr. Evil.)
"Eyes." (As he points to them.)
"Mama." "Mom."
"Happy." (Because I am frequently telling him when he cries, "Milo, let's be happy!")

Tricks
Milo is a dancing fool and will start shaking his little booty anytime he hears music. He also likes to spin to the music, with one arm sticking out.

We blow "raspberries" on Milo's tummy, which he loves. Now he has discovered he can do it back to us! Any patch of skin is fair game in his book. The other day I was sitting at the computer and he lifted up my shirt a little and blew one on my big belly! It is hilarious, and he is well aware.

Eating out of a bowl without the desire to spill all of its contents everywhere.

Drinking only out of sippy cups.

Sometimes he thinks it's funny to scrunch up his nose and breathe out of it really hard. It is really nerdy and funny. Hopefully we break him of this before he gets to the marrying age.

Kisses. (Although he needs to learn to close his mouth!)

Sharing his food, as long as he can place it directly in your mouth.

Sleeping through the night.....NOT.

Personality
Milo is what we call a "stinker," but he is really the sweetest boy I can imagine. He loves to be held and loved. He is always smiling and laughing. He is extremely active and curious about everything, especially anything outdoors. He actually throws a little fit when we have to go inside. He is not very shy, but lately has been very clingy with me. His favorite thing to do is read books, which is so wonderful, but I have gotten to the point where I don't have to read the words because I have them all memorized. He wants to be read to all day. Maybe he will be like his uncle and we can move him on to the classics like The Lord of the Rings Trilogy in the not-too-distant future... Milo's favorite food is candy. Or anything that I am eating.

One word to describe Milo...

Joy.

Shazaam!

I know they don't play until Saturday, and we won't be able to watch anyway, but...
GO SUNS!!!

And, finally, Amare Stoudemire confirms what we're all really thinking.
Seriously, Jamie and I LOATHE the Spurs. We like to call Tim Duncan "Cry-Baby Duncan." He really is.

Good eats

I'm not really a meatball kind of girl, but these are sooooo good. Jamie requests them ALL the time. Last night he said he was craving them and HAD to have them. Who's the pregnant one again?
Courtesy of my rad college roommate Jenny. When she made them, she always used hormone-free beef from her family's Kansas ranch. Lucky!

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

1 package hamburger
1 C oatmeal
1 T dried onion
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp chili powder
3/4 cup milk

Mix all ingredients and shape into balls. Cover with the following sauce:

1 C ketchup
1/2 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 T dried onion
1 C brown sugar
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/2 T vinegar

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. We eat them with rice and save some sauce to pour over the top. Delicious!

Eat more rocks

An Arizona Saturday with Milo, Owen, and Papa
